* From the Blog…Using SSL on your entire website
—–
The time has come to seriously consider running your entire site via SSL (https). Most websites do not use SSL (the secure padlock in a browser) on every page of their site, but rather only utilize ‘https’ on pages where sensitive information is gathered. However, there are now compelling reasons to use SSL on your entire website:
* SEO boost from Google in search results
* Display how secure your entire site is to your visitors
* Google prefers to index secure web pages (https://www.searchenginejournal.com/google-to-prioritize-the-indexing-of-https-pages/147179/)First and foremost, having your entire site called securely via https is what Google recommends. Currently Google assigns a small ranking benefit to an all SSL site. While this is only a small portion of the overall ranking algorithm, it could prove to be the difference that separates your site from a competitor. Additionally, it is likely that Google will strenghten this signal over time in order to encourage everyone to use SSL. A good overview of http versus https as well as tips for switching can be found at:
https://ahrefs.com/blog/http-vs-https-for-seo/
Having an all SSL website also means that you won’t run into potential issues with mixed content (insecure calls in a secure page) causing browser warnings as well as difficulties that can be encountered when visitors navigate from a secure page back to an insecure page. Of course from a security perspective, HTTPS results in encrypted browser sessions and makes it harder for hackers to pull off impersonation attacks and intercept data.
To go “All SSL”, your site needs its own SSL certificate. If you do not already have one for your website, we offer a variety of SSL certificate options starting at $149.00 per year. Please reference:

Once we put your SSL certificate in place, we can assist with switching over your entire site to run securely. Recent versions of ShopSite support this feature natively, and we can help turn it on for you and make sure everything is configured properly. Magento also makes it easy to make your entire site secure.
Next month we’ll explore using a Content Delivery Network (CDN) to speed up your website. A CDN can be combined with an all secure website to achieve the maximum benefit.
